What Is Natural Perfumery?
The Difference Between Natural
And Synthetic Fragrance
Natural (chemicals from nature - essential
oils & resins) have a complexity and richness,
whereas synthetic (man made) fragrance
chemicals largely smell ‘thin’ and ‘brassy’
in comparison.
A quote from scientist Luca Turin reveals the
secret behind mainstream perfumery
including so called ‘fine fragrances’. Luca
comments on typical perfume ingredients:
“The proportion of man made to natural
varies: By weight, synthetics usually make up
more than 90% of a fragrance... a typical
synthetic may cost $50 per kilogram, a
typical natural at least $500 per kilo, with
many naturals reaching ten or a hundred
times that”.*

The reason why most perfumes last all day
on your skin and create a ‘sillage’ around you
is because they are full of synthetic fixatives
and ‘perfume cloud’ producing chemicals.
At Hedonista we simply do not use synthetic
materials. This sets us apart from
mainstream perfumery and many other
‘natural’ brands where you may see the
statement: ‘We only use safe synthetics’.
As with all true naturals - because our
perfumes are totally free from
synthetic fixatives,
you may wish to re-apply more often.
Please note - our perfumes may be cloudy in
appearance and may also contain sediments,
these are both naturally occurring properties
in many pure essential oils resins and
absolutes.
Our perfumes are packaged in a purse /
pocket sized bottle with a roll on applicator,
perfect to take with you through your day.
Our Colognes have a sprinkler top designed
to splash directly onto your skin.
‘Parfum Extrait’ and ‘Cologne’
A ‘parfum extrait’ is a fragrance in a highly
concentrated form which is designed to apply
on to your pulse points. A ‘cologne’ is the
fragrance in a lower concentration, colognes
are designed to splash on to your skin.
A ‘cologne’ is unisex - the word ‘cologne’
describes the strength of the fragrance.
Hedonista perfumes are designed to be worn
on the skin, where they can evolve with your
body chemistry.
Cocoon yourself in beautiful scent,
and remember
smell is a primeval sense -
directly connected to our emotions.
